Non-Degree-Seeking (NDS) Status

If you have completed a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA and wish to take one or more course(s) in the department as an opportunity to expand knowledge in a departmental discipline, you are welcome to apply for non-degree-seeking (NDS) status.  Your statement of purpose should address your preparation for and motivation toward taking coursework in the Department of Classics.  Please note that undergraduate prerequisite course completion (or the equivalent) in ancient Greek and Latin is necessary for enrollment in graduate-level courses.

  • If you intend to enroll in coursework in ancient Greek (GRK) or Latin (LAT) beyond the introductory year, please contact the Director of Graduate Studies so we may determine your language placement level.
  • If you intend to use NDS coursework to strengthen your profile for graduate study, please contact the Director of Graduate Study to discuss your course selection.
  • Completion of NDS coursework to fulfill prerequisites will not guarantee admission to the KU MA program in Classics. Applicants with NDS status will need to apply for admission to the MA program, and will be considered along with the general pool of applicants.  A maximum of nine credit hours taken as an NDS student can be applied towards the MA degree upon acceptance into the MA program.
