Saturday, September 12, 2015

On September 12, 2015 the Department of Classics will host the Oliver Phillips Colloquium.

This year our guest speaker is Barbara Weiden Boyd (Henry Winkley Professor of Latin and Greek, Bowdoin College), and the title of her talk is "Aeneas, Augustus, and Family History in the Roman Landscape."

Fathers and Sons in Vergil's Aeneid."

The Phillips Colloquium is a one-day meeting designed to foster and improve the teaching of Latin in and around Kansas.   KU faculty and graduate students meet with secondary Latin teachers from the area to discuss themes around a curricular topic. This year's topic is "material culture in the classroom." Oliver Phillips was a professor in KU's Classics Department from 1964-1994.  This colloquium honors his passion for teaching Latin.

The Colloquium will be from 10 am to 4pm in the Kansas Union, Mallot Hall.
