Michael Shaw, Associate Professor of Classics, received his B.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. Professor Shaw teaches Greek language and literature at all levels, and undergraduate courses in Greek literature in translation and in modern drama based on Greek tragedy. His main interest is Greek history and drama and their influence on modern literature. His most recent publication is “Mac Wellman’s Antigone: the Hegelian theme” in Modern Drama. He is currently working on the rationalism of the Greek historian Thucydides, and recently gave a paper on the topic. Professor Shaw is also involved in historic preservation, in particular with the Kansas Preservation Alliance and the Lawrence Preservation Alliance, by whom he was honored in the spring of 2015.
